To mark International Women in Engineering Day, our Co-Founder and Technical Director Lorraine Corcoran shared her own experiences within the industry in a guest article for Silicon Republic. In the piece, Lorraine explores why more women should consider a career in engineering and how we can enable their success.
During her career Lorraine has worked and travelled in the role of R&D/NPD manufacturing principal technical positions in US and European based Manufacturing Multinationals including Abbott, Medtronic, Hewlett Packard, Vistakon (J&J), and Boston Scientific’s European Distribution Centre in Holland.
Lorraine spoke of how choosing a career in engineering, “has proven to be a rewarding decision, giving me the opportunities to travel and evolve my career according to my interests… As co-founder and Technical Director of LYNOSLIFE, I now head up one of Ireland’s leading indigenous life science manufacturing companies, creating cosmetic, skincare and wellness products. We are also the largest manufacturer of hand sanitiser in Ireland, supplying the HSE and other frontline staff”.
“If you choose to pursue a career in engineering, while it is improving, as a woman, you may be one of the only females in the room. Be confident and don’t limit yourself. If you put the hard work in, have the passion and drive, and are open to new perspectives, a career in engineering will be a rewarding one”.
